Manoranjan, a resident of Mysore, and another youth jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors’ gallery. The duo were allegedly carrying tear gas canisters. “Manoranjan had left three days back saying he is going to Bengaluru,” Devraj told News18, claiming that his son has no links with any organisation or political party. “He wanted to do good for the society,” his father said.

Manoranjan, 35, had completed engineering from Vivekanand University, Bangalore, and was unemployed. The incident was reported on the same day when the old Parliament bulding was attacked by terrorists of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed outfits in 2001, killing nine people. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said one person was seen leaping over the benches of the Lok Sabha while another was seen dangling from the public gallery spraying some tear gas, when Zero Hour was in progress. The two people were overpowered by the Lok Sabha members and the watch and ward staff. BJP member Rajendra Agrawal, who was in the chair, adjourned the proceedings till 2 pm. “This is certainly a security breach because today we observed the death anniversary of people who sacrificed their lives in the 2001 (Parliament attack),” Chowdhury said.
