Fasih Mahmood's wife to approach court, challenge arrest

Patna: The wife of Fasih Mahmood, a suspected member of a terror group involved in bomb blasts in Delhi and Bangalore, on Monday termed his arrest in New Delhi as unlawful and vowed to challenge it in court. “It was a clear cut case of an unlawful arrest. My husband was arrested without any solid evidence against him. All this was done on the basis of false reports of intelligence agencies,” Mahmood’s wife Nikhat Parveen told reporters minutes before leaving for New Delhi from Bihar’s Darbhanga district, some 125 km from here. Claiming that her husband was innocent, Parveen questioned the delay in his deportation from Saudi Arabia. According to police, Mahmood, 35, an engineer from Bihar, was deported from Saudi Arabia and arrested as soon as he landed at the Delhi airport earlier in the day. Mahmood is alleged to have been involved in the M Chinnaswamy Stadium blast in Bangalore and an explosion in Delhi, both in 2010. He is wanted for trial by both Delhi and Karnataka Police. Masih, employed in Saudi Arabia, was allegedly picked up by Saudi authorities from Al Jubal May 13 and lodged in a Saudi jail June 26 for suspected terror links, police said. The Supreme Court on 30 May issued a notice to the Central government on a petition filed by Parveen, who claimed that her husband was missing from Saudi Arabia and should be traced and presented before court. Mahmood hails from Barh Saaila village in Darbhanga district of Bihar, about 200 km from Patna. His father, Firoz Ahmad, is in-charge of the Benipatti primary health centre in Madhubani district. His mother is a school teacher in Darbhanga. IANS
