Faridabad violence: Yogendra Yadav calls for zero tolerance towards crime against weaker section

Faridabad: Former AAP leader Yogendra Yadav has asked Haryana government to adopt “zero tolerance” in crime against weaker sections of society, in the wake of the burning alive of a Dalit family in Faridabad. PTI[/caption] The leader who visited Sanped village in Faridabad on Wednesday, where the dastardly act took place, met the aggrieved family members and assured them all support, while condemning the state government for the turn of events. “The incident happened because people from upper caste do not find it right that the dalits too can stand up with their heads held high. It is not merely a case of dispute of two families, but it is very well clear that the upper caste family killed these kids to prove that what they threatened to the dalit family, can be converted to action as well,” he said. Two-and-a-half-years-old Vaibhav and 11-month-old Divya died after the assailants allegedly poured petrol through one of the windows of their house on the intervening night of 19-20 October. While the children perished in the blaze allegedly set off by some upper caste people who had a running feud with the Dalit family, their mother Rekha, 28, suffered serious burns and is battling for life in a Delhi hospital. Their father Jitender, 31, also received injuries while trying to save them. Yogendra Yadav, founder Swaraj Abhiyan also referred the Mirchpur and Gohana incidents, both in Haryana, saying that the Dalits are the victims in all such cases. He said that the people of upper caste cannot digest the rule of equality. Commenting on the failure on part of the District Police in preventing the incident, Yadav said that it is a serious matter that the family informed the SHO and the Commissioner of Police about the threat to their lives, but their pleas were not entertained. He said that another example of lapse came forth at the time of the incident where six cops were posted to watch over the security of the family but four of the cops were sleeping while two have gone to take part in a religious programme in the village. The Haryana government on Wednesday recommended a CBI probe into the incident. Eight police personnel have been placed under suspension “for showing grave misconduct in discharging their duties and regular departmental inquiry has been initiated against them”. Four of the 11 accused - Balwant, Dharam Singh, Kartar and Sanjay - have been arrested in the case. PTI
