A former bureaucrat and his 25-year-old son committed suicide in their Madhu Vihar residence in New Delhi, ANI reported.
Bal Kishan Bansal was Director-General of Corporate Affairs before he was arrested in July by the CBI on charges of corruption. The CBI said it caught him accepting Rs nine lakh in cash from a pharmaceutical company that wanted to buy its way out of an investigation for illegal business practices. A case was registered under the provisions of the Corruption Act on allegations that Bansal had been dealing with matters related to violations committed by Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company Elder Pharmaceuticals. It was alleged that Bansal demanded Rs 20 lakh for sparing it any investigation. According to NDTV , the CBI had searched the house and found Rs 60 lakh in cash, 20 property papers and details of 60 bank accounts. Bansal’s wife Satyabala, 58, and 28-year-old daughter Neha committed suicide in July right after Bansal was sent to CBI custody. They left suicide notes, saying nobody was responsible for their death.
