DK Ravi death case: CID deleted CCTV footage from his residence, claims family

In another twist to the mysterious death of Bengaluru IAS officer DK Ravi, his father-in-law has now alleged that the CID has deleted CCTV footage from the officer’s residence. According to reports, the footage showed Ravi walking out of his residence in the morning, on the day of his death. H Hanumantharayappa, a CID officer, dismissed the charges. He was quoted by The Times of India as saying , “There were blurred visions and the footage was sub-standard. The allegations are baseless and the investigation is not affected in any way.” [caption id=“attachment_2173167” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] DK Ravi. PTI DK Ravi. PTI[/caption] There have been allegations against the Karnataka government of trying to cover up the circumstances of Ravi’s death. The police returned an initial verdict of suicide, but this claim has been hotly contested. While there was a clamour for a CBI probe from Opposition parties in Karnataka and Ravi’s family, the state government had initially handed over the probe to CID. Ravi’s parents had staged a dharna in front of the Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat, demanding a CBI probe and justice for their son. A week later, facing pressure from his own party chief Sonia Gandhi, Siddaramaiah finally announced a CBI probe. The Times of India reported that  it was not just Ravi’s family and the Karnataka Opposition that has hurled accusations against the state government. The Centre, too, was unhappy about the way the state government was handling the case. The report quotes  Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju as saying, “I’ve learnt that the Karnataka government has been selective in leaking information to the media and it will not help the investigation process in any way. There should be a holistic approach to the probe and the government shouldn’t pick-and-mix details.” The government has maintained that it was prima facie a case of suicide even as the Opposition questioning the “haste” in declaring it so.
