Delhi shocker: Ola cab driver secretly films woman on mobile phone

A woman in Delhi has alleged on Facebook that an Ola cab driver secretly filmed her on his mobile phone, something which brings back horrific memories of other cases of sexual harassment or assault in cabs owned by taxi aggregators. Later, she noticed a phone which the driver had in his hand at an angle which allowed him to film her in the cab. She then asked the driver to pull over, after which she confiscated his phone and found out that the driver had been indeed filming her in the cab. “There it was, a video of me, all of me. My every gesture, movement, each word uttered was recorded on his phone. Never in my life did I ever feel this violated. Imagine, had I not known, some random stranger would have been walking around with a video of me in his phone, in his pocket, meant to be shared or something,” she said in her post. She went to the police only to be told, “madam, ye choot jayega (Madam, he will be released), it’s a bailable offense.” Ola Cabs replied to her Facebook post and apologised for “the bad experience”. “The driver partner has been terminated from our platform to ensure such experience by any of our customers is avoided,” Ola Cabs further said in the Facebook post.

Earlier in July, a woman in an Uber cab had to jump out of the moving car after the cab driver threatened to kidnap and rape her. The woman had also alleged that after she jumped out of the car, the driver reversed the cab and tried to run her over. In 2014, the rape of a 25-year-old woman in an Uber cab by driver Shiv Kumar Yadav had shocked the entire country. The incident had taken place on the night of 5 December, 2014 when the victim, a finance executive working in Gurgaon, was heading back to her house at Inderlok in Central Delhi. The woman had told a court that on the day of the incident, after finishing her office work, she had gone to Gurgaon for a party with friends and had booked an Uber cab for returning to her house in Inderlok. She had boarded the cab, which was being driven by Yadav, from Vasant Vihar area and fell asleep in the car. She also said that when she woke up, she found Yadav was also sitting on the back seat and when she tried to raise an alarm, he slapped her repeatedly and threatened to insert a rod while reminding her of the 2012 Delhi gangrape case.
