Delhi is taking the problem of errant cops head on. Not only has a cash reward of Rs 25,000 been announced for whoever provides audio or video clips as evidence against corrupt policemen, but the order was issued by police commissioner BS Bassi, after Arvind Kejriwal’s very pointed dig saying the Delhi Police was the “most corrupt”.

According to a report by DNA , the police commissioner even said, "I would quit if anyone can show that I am involved in corruption.

“We will analyse the footage sent and check its veracity after which the complainant would be called and awarded. If the complaint is against someone from a government department, the file would be forwarded to the anti-corruption branch,” he added.

This new diktat by the police commissioner is also applicable to other government servants, too, for which the complainant will be given Rs 10,000 for every actionable clip sent to the Delhi Police’s anti-corruption helpline 9910641064.

Bassi said he has gone through the 34-page survey, which was done by Centre for Media Studies (CMS), and claimed that its findings had “doubled” his force’s enthusiasm.

According to the survey, 80 percent of the people in Delhi said in 2012 that they have been at the receiving end of some sort of corruption in dealing with police officials. However, that figure decreased massively to 34 percent in 2015.

“The perception that police officials are corrupt has dropped from 56 percent in 2012 to 49 percent in 2015,” Bassi said on the sidelines of the the Police Commemoration Day Parade to PTI.

Taking a dig at the chief minister, he said, “After reading the survey thoroughly, I can go for a one-on-one debate with anybody regarding its results. If the honourable CM allows, I can help him understand those findings.”
