Six hours on, got no formal complaint from Swati Maliwal over 'assault' by Kejriwal aide: Delhi Police

The Delhi Police on Monday said that no formal complaint has been filed till now by either AAP MP Swati Maliwal or any other individual after she accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s close aide Bibhav Kumar of assaulting her at the chief minister’s residence.

“We received a PCR call at 9:34 AM wherein the caller said that she has been assaulted inside the CM residence. Accordingly, local police & SHO responded to the call. After some time, MP Swati Maliwal came to the police station civil lines. No complaint was given by her. In this matter, no complaint has been received till now,” DCP (North) Manoj Meena said.

One PCR call was made around 9:30 am on May 13 by the former Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) chief Maliwal .

A copy of the police entry shows that the caller said that the chief minister instructed Kumar to hit her.

What happened with Maliwal?

  • Maliwal reached the chief minister’s house at 9:10 am as she wanted to meet Kejriwal but was denied by his personal staff

  • The Rajya Sabha MP reportedly made the call to the PCR at 9:31 am. The call was transferred to the North control room at 9:34 and an entry was made at 9:39 am

  • The Station House Officer (SHO) reached the chief minister’s residence in Civil Lines after receiving the call and convinced Maliwal to come to the police station

  • She arrived at the police station a few minutes later

‘How will you protect Delhi women?’

BJP’s New Delhi candidate Bansuri Swaraj slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and said, “We want an answer from Arvind Kejriwal that it is his responsibility that one of your party workers who was also the DCW Chief if she is not safe in your presence then how will you protect the women of Delhi?”

AAP, meanwhile, has not yet made any comment on the matter.

Who is Bibhav Kumar?

This is not the first time Bibhav Kumar has made headlines. Earlier this year, Kumar was sacked from the post of Kejriwal’s private secretary after the Directorate of Vigilance termed his appointment “illegal.”

Kumar was also questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in April over the Delhi Excise Policy scam that saw Kejriwal imprisoned in Tihar for 50 days before he was released on bail last week.
