Delhi police claim to have collected clue on Tomar's death

New Delhi: Delhi Police are yet to find out how constable Subhash Tomar, who died 25 December, was injured during anti-rape protests 23 December in New Delhi. But they claimed to have collected some clues. A senior crime branch officer on Friday said they had collected the post-mortem report and other diagnosis reports from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where constable Subhash Tomar died of injuries 25 December. His chest and neck had injuries while his left rib was broken. It suggests the injury was made by a blunt object,” the officer, who did not want to be named, said. “According to the post-mortem report, one thing is clear: Tomar received hard injuries. It means he was hit by protesters,” the officer said. But Tomar’s medical reports from the hospital contradictions this, the officer said. Investigators are finding out if the post-mortem report said Tomar’s rib was broken, why was it not mentioned in the X-ray report. They are trying to find out if was the hospital’s fault or was there any other reason. Investigators also probing if the eight people booked for causing Tomar’s death were actually the people who beat him up. Kailash Joshi, his brother Amit Joshi, Nafees, Shankar Bisht, Nand Kumar, Shantanu Kumar, Abhishek and Chaman Kumar were arrested Dec 23 for violence during the protest but were later granted bail. After Tomar’s death, they were booked for murder. Police also using CCTV camera footage to clarify the role of accused. They Thursday questioned one of the two witnesses Yogendra Tomar. He denied the view that Tomar was beaten up. The second witness, Pauline, was questioned Friday. Yogendra, who tried to help the constable, said the policeman fell down while chasing a crowd on a road to India Gate last Sunday, contradicting police’s version that the constable was attacked.
