Delhi Police budget raised for technology, training

New Delhi: Funds for personnel training, technology upgradation, new traffic signals and housing were the highlights of the Rs. 4,555.21 crore allocation for Delhi Police in the 2013-14 union budget, up 16 percent from the last fiscal. “In comparison to the current fiscal year’s allocated budget of Rs.3,918.71 crore, we will get Rs.4,555.21 crore in the next fiscal year,” said a Delhi Police officer Thursday.  For the upgradation of training, induction of latest technology and installation of traffic signals, the budget gave police Rs. 1 crore, Rs. 2 crore and Rs. 4 crore, he said. “In the budget presented in Lok Sabha, the city police was allocated a total of Rs. 421.68 crore under plan head while Rs. 4,133.53 crore was earmarked for non-plan expenditure,” the officer added. There is a substantial increase in the outlay for construction of houses for personnel to Rs. 163.90 crore from last fiscal’s allotment of Rs. 25.40 crore. Less than 20 percent of the over 83,000 city police personnel have an official house. For construction of official buildings, the union budget 2013-14 allocated Rs. 223.32 crore to police. This is an increase over last fiscal’s allocation of Rs.198.50 crore. The budgetary provisions for developing traffic and communication network and a model traffic system is Rs. 11.71 crore, down from Rs. 20 crore last fiscal. Only Rs. 13 crore out of the Rs. 20 crore budget have been utilised in the current fiscal. IANS
