The incident took place in the wee hours of Sunday, when the Vietnamese diplomat, Nguyen Duy Khanh, was returning from a party, suspected in an inebriated state, in his Toyota car and hit the vehicle of a 42-year-old woman.

Delhi Police have also sent a report to the Union Home Ministry in connection with the incident. The vehicles of both the diplomat and the woman, identified as Arti Gupta, were damaged but nobody was injured, a senior official said.

"A case under Section 279 of IPC has been registered in connection with the matter at Vasant Kunj (South) Police Station," additional DCP (South) Nupur Prasad said.

Khanh cannot be arrested as he enjoys diplomatic immunity, senior officials said.
