New Delhi: In an apparent case of road rage, a young man was beaten to death by occupants of a car after their vehicles collided in central Delhi’s Turkman gate area on Sunday night. PTI[/caption] The incident took place at around 11.30 pm on Sunday when the victim, identified as Shahnawaz, was returning home on his motorcycle along with his wife and two children. Shahnawaz a resident of IP Estate area in central Delhi. The bike hit an i-20 car at Turkman gate. “Our bike’s silencer had barely touched their car, they beat up my father badly,” ANI quoted Shahnawaz’s son as saying. An argument ensued between the occupants of the car and the motorcyclist, which soon turned ugly with Shahnawaz beaten up badly. He was later taken to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead, police said. Witnesses claimed that the attackers also beat up Shahnawaz’s wife, according to a report in
The Times of India. Soon after the incident, tension prevailed in the area as locals protested alleging police inaction in the case. Some angry protesters also set a few vehicles on fire, according to TOI. Heavy police deployment was made in the area and some people have been detained. “We have registered a case of murder and investigations are on. We are examining CCTVs installed in the area to identify the assailants,” said a senior police official. (With agency inputs)
