In a shocking incident, a private hospital in Delhi has been accused of dumping the body of a infant with its bio-medical waste despite taking money from its parents to keep the body in its mortuary.

The baby had been brought to the Mata Chanan Devi hospital in Janakpuri after being born prematurely in another hospital, and was found to be suffering from a swelling in her head.

However, the infant died of complications in the wee hours of Monday and the body was taken to the mortuary of the hospital, where it was to be kept until the funeral.

The child’s family also claimed that the hospital had forced them to pay an advance before the baby was admitted and said they had also been charged  to keep the body in the mortuary. But when they went to the hospital the next day they were told that the body was not there.

“First they claimed the body wasn’t there. Suddenly one worker in the mortuary went running past us to the garbage vehicle and took out the body and gave it to us,” the deceased child’s uncle told reporters today.

“Wa paid money for the baby’s body to be kept in the mortuary but instead found it in the garbage dump,” the child’s distraught father said.

The hospital has reportedly denied allegations of medical negligence, but has instituted a four member enquiry panel that will give its report in three days.

According to a Hindustan Times report , the hospital staff may have mistaken the body for an amputated limb due to which they disposed of it in the bio-medical waste. A police case has also been registered.

The Chief Minister has already promised action and health minister Satyendra Jain has also said that the strongest possible action will be taken.

“It is very unfortunate and inhuman,” the minister said, speaking about the incident.

Jain said that a notice had been issued to the hospital to which they will have to respond in 24 hours and they will face consequences for this incident.
