Delhi gangrape: Police files supplementary enquiry report against juvenile

Delhi Police on Thursday filed a supplementary enquiry report- the equivalent of a charge sheet- before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) against the juvenile accused in Delhi gangrape case. The sixth accused in the case, who has been declared a minor by the JJB, is facing a trial under the Juvenile Justice Act (JJA). [caption id=“attachment_625745” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] AFP AFP[/caption] The JJA has fixed 18 years as the cut-off age for juvenile offenders. Under the Act, a juvenile cannot be sentenced to capital punishment or life imprisonment but offenders can be sent to observation homes for petty crimes and institutions called ‘place of safety’ for heinous offences. Police also filed an enquiry report for the robbery allegedly committed by the juvenile and his five co-accused before they allegedly gang raped the 23-year-old physiotherapy student and injured her male friend in a moving bus on the night of 16 December. Before the two boarded the bus, the six accused allegedly robbed one Ramadhar Singh and threw him from the bus. The next hearing of the case before the JJB will take place on 28 February. The five other co-accused in the case are facing an in-camera trial in a fast-track court in Saket, South Delhi.
