Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was physically assaulted during an event at her residence in Civil Lines. The suspect behind the attack has been taken into custody.
Sources have told News18 that the incident took place during a public grievance hearing or Jan Sunvai, when a man entered and handed over a paper to Gupta, shouted, slapped and pulled her hair, and abused her.
The individual is also reported to have been involved in a physical altercation with the Chief Minister. According to sources, court-related documents were recovered from the accused’s possession.
The accused has been identified as 41-year-old Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya from Gujarat’s Rajkot.

Meanwhile, IANS has quoted Delhi Police sources as saying that the man threw a heavy object at the chief minister, leading her to fall on the ground. The BJP has claimed that Gupta has suffered a head injury.
An additional police force has been deployed at the Chief Minister’s residence in Civil Lines after the incident unfolded.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva “strongly” condemned the “attack” on the chief minister during her weekly ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme, said the Delhi BJP said in a message.
