Delhi child rape: Police didn't try to hush up case, says report

New Delhi: Blaming just a Station House Officer (SHO) for responding ‘weakly’ to the situation, a vigilance inquiry report condoned the other personnel from the Gandhinagar Police Station for delayed action in the rape case of the 5-year-old girl in Delhi. According to an article on on The Times of India, the inquiry report refutes allegations that the police tried to hush up the case. Agencies.[/caption] The report doesn’t presently  deny that the SHO tried to bribe the victim’s parents. However, it states that the officer couldn’t have tried to persuade the parents to not lodge an FIR because it was already registered when the exchange between him and the victim’s parents took place. The report was submitted to commissioner of police Neeraj Kumar who is said to have personally overseen the probe. A regular vigilance inquiry has been initiated against the SHO of the police station Dharampal. Depending on the report, the SHO can be suspended or dismissed from duty. “There was no scope of any hush-up because a case was already registered, and there was media, NGO and government agencies all around,” a top official from the Delhi police was quoted as saying in the report.
