Second jolt in a single day: After SC setback, now Delhi court extends Kejriwal's judicial custody till April 25

A Delhi Court on Monday extended Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody till April 25 in the Excise Policy case.

A bench at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court has also ordered Kejriwal to be produced before the court on April 23 via videoconferencing.

Moments before the Delhi court hearing, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate on Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest.

The apex court also turned down the request by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief’s lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, for interim relief of Kejriwal until the ED replies to the petition.

Recently, the Delhi High Court dismissed the chief minister’s plea in connection with the matter and said that there was evidence to show that Kejriwal was involved in the scam.

The plea was filed challenging the April 10 judgment of the High Court.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 and was produced before Rouse Avenue Court, which initially remanded him to ED custody till March 28.

The ED’s custody was later extended till April 1. Thereafter, the Delhi CM was sent to judicial custody till April 15. He is presently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Earlier today, the Rouse Avenue Court also sent BRS leader and daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, K Kavitha to judicial custody till April 23.
