The group of doctors who were behind Delhi’s car blast that killed over a dozen people in November last year was targeting a global coffee chain whose owner is a Jew.

According to a report by The Hindu, the “white collar terror module” was active and planning the attacks for the past four years. The terror module was reportedly set to attack outlets of the coffee chain.

The Delhi blast case is currently being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has so fararrested nine people.

What was the plan?

A source told the news outlet that differences had emerged between the suicide bomber Dr Umar Nabi, and  Muzamil Ahmad Ganaie, Adeel Ahmed Rather, and Shaheen Saeed from Uttar Pradesh over the possible choice of targets.

The motive behind bombing the coffee shops, the arrested doctors were seeking to send a message to the Israeli military over its war in Gaza. However, some members of the group wanted to limit their attacks to security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The accused watched online videos and intended to create bombs from scratch. That is why thousands of kilos of urea bags were recovered from them. They had experimented a lot by mixing various chemicals, ensuring that the bombs are prepared from locally available materials, thereby not raising any red flags,” the source said.

Group wanted to revive offshoot of al-Qaeda

A senior official stated that the group intended to revive Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), the Indian branch of al-Qaeda.

The outfit was originally founded by Zakir Musa, who was killed by security forces in 2019. Following the 2021 death of the group’s last commander, Muzamil Ahmad Tantray, the accused, including several doctors, allegedly sought to resurrect the organisation and establish Islamic law in India.

Coincidentally, November’s Delhi blast followed an extensive investigation conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir police to find a “terror module” linked to two terror outfits, the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and the AguH, after pamphlets issued by Jaish-e-Mohammad surfaced in Srinagar in October last year.

The Economic Survey 2025-2026 flagged digital addiction as a growing concern in India, especially among youth, warning of negative impacts on mental health, learning, and productivity. The report urged the government to consider age-based limits for social media and digital ads targeting children, referencing Australia's ban for those under 16. States like Kerala, Goa, and Andhra Pradesh are exploring measures to combat digital addiction, but experts debate the effectiveness of outright bans.
