Dr Shaheen Shahid, the woman doctor who has emerged as a key suspect in the Delhi blast probe, was suspended from GSVM Medical College in Kanpur, where she was working as a lecturer in 2021.

Shahid has been arrested for alleged involvement in a terror network operating across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. She has been moved to Srinagar, where authorities will conduct further interrogation.

Hired in 2013, fired in 2021

According to a report by News18, Shahid was employed at the medical college as a lecturer and was selected for the job through the Public Service Commission. However, she stopped showing up for work in 2013, and despite several reminders that asked her to return to duty, she failed to turn up. Ultimately, the government fired her in 2021.

After her name emerged in the ongoing investigation, officials at Kanpur Medical College were instructed to verify her employment records, which Principal Dr Sanjay Kala later confirmed.

An ATS team visited the college to gather all relevant documents. Late into the night, police and investigative agencies were seen reviewing old files in the principal’s office, cross-checking records from the period when Shaheen was employed.

Who is she?

A resident of Lucknow’s Lal Bagh, Shahid was reportedly part of Al-Falah University and was closely associated with Kashmiri doctor Muzammil Ganaie, alias Musaib, the man who was arrested in a raid in Faridabad for possessing 2,900 kg of explosives and inflammable material earlier this week.

Investigators discovered that the car used to store an assault rifle, a pistol, and ammunition was registered to Shaheen Shahid. The Maruti Suzuki Swift, bearing a Faridabad registration number (HR 51), was searched following the interrogation of Muzammil.

She is accused of having links with several Pakistan-based terror outfits, including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Gazwat-ul Hind (AGuH). Authorities say Shahid was charged with setting up the Jamaat ul-Mominaat, the women’s wing of the JeM in India.
