New Delhi: BJP members in the Lok Sabha on Monday made a strong plea for declaring Bhagwad Gita as "National Book" and urged the centre to organise an international festival on the lines announced by Haryana government.
Raising the issue during zero hour, Yogi Adityanath (BJP) said that the teachings of the Gita have become all the more relevant at a time when the world is concerned over terrorism.
Noting that the scripture teaches immortal values and is a guide to humanity, he hailed the Bhagvad Gita Mahotsav held at Kurukhshetra recently. He also said that learning of Bhagvad Gita should be made part of school curriculum.
His plea was supported by a large number of his party colleagues with thumping of desks.
Ratan Lal Kataria, another BJP MP, later said the Centre should emulate Haryana government in organising a Gita festival.
"Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar had announced Gita utsav. He announced of organising a similar event at international level by inviting these scholars of international repute," Kataria, who represent Ambala in Haryana said.
