DCW chief Swati Maliwal alleges negligence by Delhi Police in a rape case

New Delhi: DCW chief Swati Maliwal on Wednesday accused Delhi police of negligence in a case of alleged rape of an 18-year-old girl by several men for the past six months. IBNLive[/caption] She also alleged that no FIR was registered by the police in this connection and no constable was deployed in the ward of Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where the victim is admitted, despite the accused trafficker being apprehended from the ward on Wednesday morning. “Delhi police have not registered an FIR in the case despite the very fact the victim was raped and tortured at several places in Delhi also. They have just handed over the accused to concerned state police. “Also, I was appalled at the fact there was no police constable deployed in the ward where she was kept despite the accused trafficker being apprehended from the same ward today morning. The accused had come to meet the girl and was caught by the members of the NGO,” Maliwal said after meeting the girl on Wednesday. Maliwal further said that the girl’s dressings were not changed since Tuesday morning, and it was only after her intervention that the dressings were changed and the victim was shifted to a private ward. According to the doctors, the girl has been diagnosed with Septic Arthritis, she said. “When I went to meet her, she was stinking as her dressings had not been changed since yesterday morning. We will issuing notice to GTB hospital for negligence in the case,” she said. Also, the girl is admitted in the hospital since 22 November, but no Medico Legal Case was filed. It was only after the DCW’s intervention that an MLC was filed in the matter. “The girl is in a critical state and is unable to make use of her lower limbs. She has infections all over her body from which pus is coming out constantly. The victim has reported about sexual abuse and multiple sexual assaults over the last six months,” Maliwal said. “Also, the accused was found to be HIV positive, raising serious concerns about the victim being also infected. Her samples have been taken for an examination,” said Maliwal. PTI
