In fact, she was given the informal title of ‘Lady Don’. Cases against her included land grabbing and extortion. Several of these extortion operations had resulted in court cases, most of which will probably be dismissed now. One such case, involving Vinod Avlani, is based on allegations by Avlani that she extorted a total of Rs 1 crore from him for construction, but when he asked for the money to be returned, he was reportedly refused and subsequently threatened. Parkar’s lawyer had claimed that this was not a case of extortion, but rather that of cheating, said reports. Parkar lived with her son Alishah and a 21-year-old-daughter in Nagpada’s Gordon House building, opposite the local police station, according to NDTV. Parkar had one more son, Danish, considered to be Dawood’s favourite nephew and expected at one time to join the gang’s activities. Danish howevre died in a road accident in 2006. Parkar’s name became a commonly heard one in the underworld after her husband Ismail Parkar was murdered by the Arun Gawli gang. His death was reportedly avenged when Dawood arranged the infamous JJ Hospital shootouts in 1991. Upon her death on Sunday, the Mumbai police sprung into action to arrange security for the funeral; more than two hundred police officers were deployed to prevent trouble should it arise. Additionally, the police involved themselves in the recording of the funeral procession and those who had attended. Reports said police were keen to record who were still in touch with India’s most wanted fugitive criminal. Interestingly, Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi attended the funeral. Haseena was the seventh out of twelve children; she is survived by a son and a daughter.
Dawood could not attend his sister’s funeral, but a large security detail was provided to handle any emergency situation.
