Jammu and Kashmir authorities have razed the houses of five terrorists reportedly linked to the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people on April 22. One of the houses that was destroyed on Friday night belonged to a Lashkar-e-Taiba commander.
Officials say that the latest actions were carried out in Shopian, Kulgam, and Pulwama districts as security forces intensify their search to track down the four terrorists involved in the attack.
Whose houses have been razed?
In the village of Chotipora in Shopian, authorities demolished the residence of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Shahid Ahmed Kuttay, leaving it in ruins. According to officials, Kuttay has been involved in terrorist activities for the last three to four years and is believed to have played a significant role in orchestrating anti-national operations.
A double-storey residence of an active terrorist, Zahid Ahmed, was demolished in Kulgam’s Matalam area.
In Pulwama’s Murran area, the home of terrorist Ahsan Ul Haq was destroyed in a blast, levelling the structure entirely. Ahsan, who received terror training in Pakistan back in 2018, had recently returned to the Valley, triggering alarm among intelligence agencies.
Another double-storey home of LeT terrorist Ehsan Ahmad Sheikh was torn down on Friday. Sheikh has been active since June 2023.
The residence of a fifth terrorist, Haris Ahmad, was demolished in a blast in Pulwama’s Kachipora area.
UNSC condemns attack
The UN Security Council has condemned in the strongest terms the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, underlining the need to hold the perpetrators, organisers and the sponsors of “this reprehensible act of terrorism” accountable and bring them to justice.
The 15-nation UN Security Council (UNSC) issued a press statement on Friday in which it reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constituted one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
“The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, during which at least 26 people were killed and many more injured,” it said in the press statement.
