Court's order granting bail to Kanhaiya is a vindication of our stand: ABVP

New Delhi:  ABVP on Thursday claimed the Delhi High Court order granting bail to JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar is a vindication of their stand and not his “acquittal” as is being “celebrated” by students and teachers on the varsity campus. The Delhi High Court had on Wednesday said anti-national view in the minds of JNU students who raised slogans is like a kind of infection from which they are suffering and needs to be cured even by surgical intervention. PTI[/caption] “The Afzal Guru gang, including some students and teachers, are befooling the JNU community by projecting Kanhaiya’s bail as acquittal with full honours. The court’s order is a vindication of ABVP’s stand,” JNUSU joint secretary Saurabh Kumar Sharma, the lone ABVP member in the union, said. Members of JNU’s ABVP unit protested the celebrations that broke out following the grant of bail to Kumar and also submitted a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Jagdish Kumar demanding rustication of eight students connected with the controversial February 9 event. A protest march under the banner “Checking the infection before becoming epidemic” began at the varsity’s administration block which is the venue of the protest ever since Kanhaiya was arrested. The memorandum submitted by ABVP mentioned four demands including a check on victimisation, stigmatisation and trauma inflicted on a section of students by rival groups supported by teachers. “We demand that Nivedita Menon (a teacher) must step down for ridiculing and trivialising the martyrdom and dedication of Indian army. The teachers have been academically legitimising the terrorism and violence on the campus,” JNU’s ABVP unit president Alok Singh said. “We also demand that Kanhaiya Kumar, Shehla Rashid and Rama Naga must resign from their posts for supporting anti-national activities in the guise of freedom of speech,” he added.
