India on Thursday dismissed claims by Pakistan that it downed 5 Indian jets, saying that this is a country that started lying as soon as it was born.

“…There is nothing surprising in it. After all, this is a country that started lying as soon as it was born. In 1947, when the Pakistani army claimed Jammu and Kashmir, they lied not to any random person but to the United Nations that we have nothing to do with it… So this journey started 75 years ago…,” said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Pakistan claimed it shot down five Indian jets – three French-made Rafales, a MiG-29 and an Su-30 fighter – after India launched airstrikes on terrorist hideouts inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

“Our jet fighters were J-10Cs that shot down the three French Rafales and other jets," CNN quoted Dar saying on Wednesday.

He added that by 4 am on Wednesday, there was “an entire Chinese team at the Foreign Office along with their ambassador” being updated on what had taken place.

Meanwhile, Misri put the onus on Pakistan for further escalation and said that any misadventure by the neighboring country will be responded appropriately.

“…Now if there is an attempt at further escalation by Pakistan, it will be responded to in an appropriate domain and therefore the choices entirely that of Pakistan to make,” said Misri.
