Cop thrashed by MLAs suspended, faces allegations of using foul language

Traffic police official Sachin Suryavanshi, who was allegedly assaulted by five MLAs and their supporters in the Maharashtra Assembly for stopping a legislator for speeding, was today suspended, reports said. Home Minister RR Patil was reported as saying in the Maharashtra state assembly that the police official would remain suspended until the investigation into the matter was completed, Times Now reported. The state home minister said that the suspension was on account of allegations that he had used foul language against the MLA Kshitij Thakur after stopping him for speeding on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai, ABP Majha News tweeted. Image courtesy: Ibnlive[/caption] Suryavanshi was earlier admitted to a Mumbai hospital and subsequently discharged after he was assaulted by five MLAs and their supporters. On 20 March, an FIR was registered against the legislators and fourteen others. Two MLAs, independent legislator Kshtij Thakur and MNS’ Ram Kadam, were arrested by the Crime Branch of the Mumbai police for their alleged involvement in the assault on the traffic police official. They were released on bail today. The accused have been booked under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 341 (wrongful restraint), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation). The five MLAs were suspended till 31 December for their conduct. The Maharashtra Assembly was adjourned today after legislators created a ruckus over the issue today. They were demanding that the suspension of MLAs charged for beating up a policeman in the House be revoked.
