On April Fool’s day, the Congress party mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party with a video news bulletin and a series of pictures poking fun at government schemes of the government such as demonetisation and Swachh Bharat. In response, BJP accused the grand old party of providing only “spoof governments” in India.

“An amount of Rs 15,00,000.00 has been CREDITED to your A/C on 01/04/2018 towards Acche Din. Ref No. http://BJP00000420. Total available balance Rs 0.00. Here are some other BREAKING NEWS stories trending this hour (sic),” the party tweeted in apparent jibe on demonetisation along with the following video:

The video claims that India has become free of corruption after demonetisation and that even aliens are coming to work in India after the government released 200 crore jobs. It goes on to claim that Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi have “boosted” the prime minister’s Swachh Bharat campaign by ‘cleaning out’ the government-owned Punjab National Bank. Congress also mocked the government over rising prices. It tweeted “Worried about price rise? The Modi govt has just shared a tip on how to tackle it” with this image:

The tweets were shared with the hashtag #HappyJumlaDiwas referring to its previous allegations against the Centre of making only tall claims and not fulfilling its promises.

The BJP reacted to the video and party leader Sambit Patra told India Today that Congress only provided “spoof government” in all the years it ruled India.

The biggest jumla, he said, was “gareebi hatao” launched by former prime minister Indira Gandhi. He added that now that 18,000 villages are getting electrified and there’s financial inclusion because of Jan Dhan scheme, the Congress is unnerved ahead of the 2019 general elections.
