Congress leader Milind Deora quits party, likely to join Shinde-led Sena

Congress politician and former Union minister Milind Deora resigned from the party’s main membership on Sunday. In a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, the former South Mumbai Lok Sabha MP said, “Today marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in my political journey. I have tendered my resignation from the primary membership of the Congress, ending my family’s 55 year relationship with the party. I am grateful to all leaders, colleagues and karyakartas for their unwavering support over the years.”

In recent days, there has been much conjecture in political circles over his possible joining of the Shiv Sena, which is run by Eknath Shinde. From 2012 to 2014, Milind Deora was the Congressman’s Union Minister of State for Communications, Information Technology, and Shipping. In addition, he had once served as the Mumbai Pradesh Congress Committee’s president. Recently named joint treasurer of the All India Congress Committee, Deora voiced his disapproval of the Shiv Sena (UBT) staking claim to the Mumbai South Lok Sabha seat, which Deora had previously held. The united Shiv Sena’s Arvind Sawant, now with the Thackeray faction, had beaten Deora in the 2014 and 2019 general elections. At one point, Deora led the Mumbai Congress as well. His father, late party leader Murli Deora, is his son.
