On Wednesday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved Sanjay Nirupam’s six-year expulsion from the party due to accusations of insubordination and anti-party remarks.
Nirupam was earlier removed by the Congress from its roster of celebrity advocates in Maharashtra and warned that he will face consequences for his comments disparaging the party.
“The way he has been making remarks, it seems he has taken a contract to speak against the party. Action will be taken against him in a day or two. No notice will be sent to him,” Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole said.
In response to the development, Nirupam took a jab at the Congress and declared that he will make an announcement about his next move tomorrow.
“Congress should not waste its energy and stationery on me and instead use whatever little is left in saving the party. It is anyways going through a huge economic crisis. My one-week deadline ends today and I will make an announcement tomorrow,” he said in a post on X.
