Concrete barricades, sealed borders: WATCH how Delhi Police secures capital as farmers' protest intensify

As farmers’ protests intensify in the national capital, the Delhi police have put forth a slew of security measures to avoid any untoward incident, especially in central Delhi. Earlier today, security officials deployed tear gas bombs in the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu border as farmers marched towards the national capital under the slogan of ‘Delhi Chalo’.

‘Plan B’ A police official said that officials have been asked to chart out a ‘Plan B’ in case things go south and protesting farmers from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan enter the city and try to reach the Parliament. Several security personnel in anti-riot gear have been deployed strategically while metal and concrete barricades regulating access to several key roads have also been put into place. All Parliament gates have been barricaded and extra security personnel including from the paramilitary forces have been positioned around the building. The barricades installed near Parliament have been fitted with barred wire on top. Security has also been heightened in the residences of the prime minister, Union Minister Amit Shah and Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda. Borders sealed The three borders of Delhi – Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur – have been sealed and the police have installed multiple layers of barricading at roads leading to the Parliament and Central Delhi.

National Highway-9, heading towards Akshardham from Ghazipur, has been barricaded with cranes and heavy earthmovers. The police intensified the checking of vehicles to identify protestors trying to enter Delhi in commercial or private vehicles.
