Colonel Ajay Chaudhary, an Indian Army officer and defence PRO posted in Imphal, was today detained at Pallel, 60 km from the Manipur capital allegedly for smuggling drugs worth Rs 15 crore.
According to a NDTV report, five others were also detained including a Territorial Army soldier.[caption id=“attachment_637613” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Credibility threat? AFP[/caption] The Times Now reported that the colonel will face the proceedings in a civilian court. The channel also reported that the army will ensure strictest of punishment to its officer if found guilty. The police also detained an assistant manager of an airlines, the Times Now report said.
The NDTV report said, “They were carrying tablets of different brands in three vehicles towards Moreh, the border town, to be smuggled out to Myanmar were pseudoephedrine is in great demand as a speed drug. The vehicles were packed with tablets, to the roof.”
The defence ministry, which already has its hands full because of many questionable military deals, now has another problem to tackle.
