Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday (June 4) evening confirmed that 11 individuals had died in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede earlier in the day, while 47 more were injured. The tragedy happened when thousands of people showed up for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB’s) victory parade to celebrate IPL 2025 win.
In a press conference, the Congress leader also admitted that the government had not expected the crowd that appeared for the event it organised. Although the stadium’s capacity is 35,000 people, he said 2-3 lakh people showed up.
Karnataka govt orders probe
CM Siddaramaiah has also ordered a probe into the incident. Addressing a press conference regarding the stampede, he said, “I have ordered a magisterial inquiry into this tragedy. Appropriate action will be taken against the guilty. Instructions have been given to submit the investigation report within 15 days.”
The Karnataka government also promptly announced a Rs 10 lakh compensation to the family of the deceased and promised to bear the entire cost of treatment of those injured during the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede.

PM Modi, Prez Murmu shares condolences
Taking to social media platform X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his condolences in Kannada. “The tragedy in Bengaluru is truly heartbreaking. My condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones during this tragedy. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he wrote.
