Chidambaram was produced before the Delhi court on expiry of his one-day CBI custody in the INX Media corruption case.
Just after an hour the apex court ordered that Chidambaram will be in the CBI custody till 5 September, he was produced before Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI in former finance minister P Chidambaram’s plea against arrest by the central investigative agency in the INX Media case, reportedly accused the counsel for the Congress leader of “pressurizing” the trial court hearing another plea in the case to decide on the bail application on Monday itself. “Bail was moved 14 days after arrest & they wanted it decided in a day,” Mehta was quoted as saying.

When the case of former finance minister P Chidambaram’s plea against the CBI arrest was heard in the pre-lunch session on Monday, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Chidambaram, questioned the non-bailable warrant issued against the former union minister and said the Congress leader has already been in CBI’s custody for last 12 days.
“He (Chidambaram) is in custody for 12 days. He was arrested pursuant to an NBW which could have never been issued. Either give him interim bail or put him in house arrest. He should not be sent to Tihar jail. He is a 73-year-old man,” Sibal told the bench.

SC moves hearing of Chidambaram’s plea against non-bailable warrant from 5 September to today
The apex court initially, at around 1.40 PM, asked the trial court to consider Chidambaram’s request for interim bail in the INX Media corruption case on Monday itself and said if he is not granted the relief, his CBI custody would be extended by three more days.
However, hours after the top court passed the order, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned the matter at around 3 PM and said there would be “jurisdictional difficulty” in implementing the order passed earlier in the day.
After hearing him, a bench of justices R Banumathi and AS Bopanna modified the order and advanced the hearing for Tuesday from Thursday (5 September) on Chidambaram’s plea challenging the non-bailable warrant against him and remand orders passed by the trial court.
