Chhattisgarh govt orders probe into blood-stained CRPF uniforms found in garbage dump

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government on Thursday ordered a magisterial probe into the recovery of blood stained uniforms and shoes - of CRPF personnel killed in recent Naxal ambush in Sukma - from a garbage dump here in a government hospital premises where their autopsies took place. AFP[/caption] “Chief Minister Raman Singh has taken the matter of throwing the uniforms of the martyred personnel in the garbage dump in the medical college hospital premises seriously and ordered a magisterial investigation into it,” an official statement said. Following the directives, Raipur Collector Thakur Ram Singh has appointed Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) SK Agrawal to probe the matter, it said. Fourteen CRPF personnel, including two officers, were killed on 1 November in a Naxal attack in the Chintagufa region of South Bastar’s Sukma district. Bodies of the slain personnel were airlifted and sent to their families on Tuesday. According to the official, the probe is primarily based on three points – the procedure of disposing off the uniforms and other belongings of the martyred security personnel, how it was disposed off and who are guilty for the incident. Blood-stained uniforms and shoes of some of the CRPF personnel who were killed in the Sukma Naxal attack were found on Wednesday in a garbage dump in the hospital premises, sparking outrage. Opposition Congress leaders said it showed “insensitivity and disrespect” of the authorities and demanded an apology from the BJP government in the state. Congress leaders took the blood stained uniforms and other remains to their state party office from where police and CRPF officials collected it. Deputy Inspector General (DIG), CRPF, Pradeep Chandra said a probe is being conducted in this regard. The probe report will be submitted to the government within 15 days, he said. PTI
