Chennai techie commits suicide in Singapore: Victim's parents say husband pushed her to take the step

A software engineer from Chennai committed suicide in Singapore by jumping from the 15th floor of a housing complex, reported The Times Of India . Parents of the techie, who live in Chennai, have approached the Chennai Police demanding that action be taken against her husband and also sought to bring the body back to India. Twenty five-year-old Deepika moved from Chennai to Singapore after she married Jai Krishnan, who worked with a Singapore firm. In a written complaint to the police, Deepika’s parents have alleged that she took the step because Krishnan was harassing her to pay Rs 10 lakh which were incurred when she delivered their baby girl on 2 September. AFP[/caption] The New Indian Express reported  that Deepika messaged her sister Deepa before she took the step, saying that if anything happens to her, they should ask her husband to pay to bring her body to India. When the family learnt that Deepika had committed suicide, they went to meet the Chennai Police Commissioner TK Rajendran. Deepika’s mother Usha rolled on the road outside the office, as she sought redressal. The commissioner has forwarded the complaint to the Central Crime Branch, who will coordinate with the police in Singapore, reported The Times Of India. The Deccan Chronicle reported  that Usha and Deepika’s father Srinivasan had wanted their daughter to come to Chennai to deliver her baby, but Krishnan had refused, saying if the child is born there, then she would be granted Singapore citizenship. Deepika’s parents are also seeking the police’s help in bringing their granddaughter to India, The New Indian Express reported.
