Recently surfaced CCTV footage shows the 17-year-old boy who hit two people with his Porsche in Pune, drinking at a restaurant before driving his EV at a great speed.

One of the videos shows the minor boy, son of a Pune-based real estate developer - Vishal Agarwal, purportedly consuming alcohol with his friends before getting into his vehicle.

After leaving the bar, the boy sped his Porsche, which was being driven without a number plate, and knocked down Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old techies from Madhya Pradesh working in Pune, in Kalyaninagar around 3:15 am on Sunday.

During the investigation into the Pune Porsche accident case, the police found the boy, on Saturday evening, had visited two restaurants with a group of about 10-12 friends. They were served alcohol, namely vodka, whiskey, and beer along with food at both the restaurants.

The owners and managers of both establishments have been booked for serving liquor to minors.

The Pune police had on Monday confirmed that the boy, driving the Porsche when it hit a motorcycle killing two people, had consumed alcohol hours before the accident took place, and seems to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said during the initial probe, the minor accused had told them his father was aware that we would be consuming alcohol that evening.

On Tuesday, police took the boy’s father into custody from Maharashtra’s Aurangabad and brought him to Pune. He has been booked for allowing his minor son to drive the Porsche without valid documentation and for letting him consume alcohol.

Father knew his minor son had no driver’s training

The FIR registered at Yerwada Police Station mentioned that the minor told the police that his father had handed over the grey Porsche to him despite knowing that he had no driver’s training and did not have a driver’s licence.

“He has also said his father allowed him to party with his friends and he was aware that he would be consuming alcohol,” the FIR further said.

As per reports, a team from the Crime Branch had visited the school of the minor boy to obtain documents that would ascertain his real age.

The boy is said to be just four months short of turning 18 years old.

Pune seethes in anger

The minor was arrested after the accident and was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Sunday. However, he was let go after being detained for 15 hours. The conditions for his bail included working with Yerawada traffic police for 15 days, writing a 300-word essay on the “effect of road accidents and their solution”, undergoing psychiatric evaluation and treatment, seeking rehabilitation at a de-addiction centre. The lenient nature of the conditions for bail has enraged the people of the city, as well as the families of the deceased.

People in Pune as well as family members of the victims slammed the decision of granting bail to the boy and said the punishment given to him was too “lenient”.

There was also anger among people over reports of the juvenile being fed pizza, burger and biryani at the police station during his detention.
