CBI to exhume Badaun gangrape victims' bodies for second autopsy

In a fresh twist to the Badaun gangrape and murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said that it will exhume the bodies of the two rape victims and conduct another autopsy. Recently, the CBI carried out lie detector tests on the fathers of the two cousin sisters from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh who were allegedly raped, killed and their bodies found hanging from a tree, even as the victims’ family objected to the agency’s move. CBI sources had said that the fathers of the rape victims, a family member and a witness have were taken to Central Forensic Science Laboratory for the test. The CBI sources said that they did not doubt the claims made by the families of the victims but in order to develop a flawless case, the agency will have to test the veracity of their statements. AP[/caption] The sources said the statements given by the family members have some inconsistencies which need to be clarified before proceeding in the case. The postmortem report of the two girls confirmed that they were raped before being murdered. Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police AL Banerjee had also raised questions about the incident. He had claimed that it could not be confirmed if one of the girls had been raped, while suggesting that a property dispute could be one of the motives behind the crime. The lie-detector test, which is based on the premise that certain parameters of the body fluctuate when a person is lying, measures these parameters of the person undergoing the test and presents to the investigators a graph which shows variation when a particular question is asked.
