Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh State Minorities Commission (APSMC) has appealed to the Centre to order a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in management of Wakf properties in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Commission Chairman Abid Rasool Khan made this plea during a meeting with Union Minister for Minority Affairs Najma Heptulla in Hyderabad over the weekend. During Heptulla’s visit to the city, Khan briefed her on the activities of the Commission, its findings and also the surveys conducted by the panel. Khan on Monday said that he told the Minister the Commission has compiled a detailed report on illegal sale, transfer and lease and also misappropriation of funds and grabbing of Wakf properties for the past 15 years in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He requested Heptulla to order a CBI probe into the Wakf’s affairs based on the panel’s report and also inquiries conducted by other departments. The Chairman also listed steps taken by the Commission to protect Wakf properties. “I will soon submit a report of the Commission to the Union Minister for Minority Affairs, besides the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, seeking a CBI inquiry into the Wakf affairs in both states,” Khan said. Khan said he has been assured by the Minister of appropriate action in regard to CBI probe after the report is received. PTI
