CBI files chargesheet against five in Nanhe Yadav murder case

New Delhi: CBI on Friday filed a chargesheet against five people in connection with the murder of village head Nanhe Yadav in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district this March. Those named in the chargesheet are Ajay Pal, Vijay Pal and Rakesh Pal, who had land disputes with Nanhe Yadav, Sanjay Pratap Singh alias Guddu Singh and his brother Rajiv Pratap Singh alias Raju Singh. [caption id=“attachment_831443” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  IBNLive[/caption] Sanjay Pratap Singh was the driver of former Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya. The politician was also questioned by the CBI for allegedly providing shelter to his driver. On 2 March evening, Nanhe Yadav was shot dead at Balipur village near his house and his death sparked a chain of events which led to the killing of his younger brother Suresh Yadav and DSP Zia-ul Haq. The case was investigated by local police which arrested Guddu Singh and Rajiv Pratap Singh on 4 March. Later, on 8 March, the CBI took over the investigation after a recommendation by the Uttar Pradesh government. This is one of the four cases registered by the CBI to probe the murders of Yadav, Haq and the violence in the area. Praveen Azad, wife of the slain DSP, had named Raja Bhaiya’s drivers Guddu Singh and Rohit Singh, Kunda zilla panchayat chairman Gulshan Yadav and Raja Bhaiya’s local representative Hariom Srivastava for beating and killing her husband. However, the allegations could not be verified during investigation and the CBI arrested the pradhan’s son and his brothers Phoolchand and Pawan as well as an associate, Manjit Yadav, for killing Haq. Sources said the CBI had probed the incidents from all angles but found no direct evidence against Raja Bhaiya in the murder of Nanhe Yadav so far. CBI alleged that killing of Nanhe was the handiwork of hired shooters who gunned him down on 2 March when he was standing at a tea stall in Balipur village. After the murder of Yadav, Haq had rushed to the village to control the situation. By the time he approached the site, the news of Yadav’s murder had spread and a large crowd gathered outside his house which was angry at the alleged apathy of the police and protested the police’s alleged failure to stop the murder. When Haq reached the house of Nanhe Yadav, a mob had gathered which entered into a scuffle with him while his fellow policemen allegedly deserted him, the sources said. Yadav’s brother Suresh, who was armed with a rifle, was also part of the crowd. As the scuffle was on, Suresh was killed after his gun accidentally went off, they said. CBI sources claimed that enraged by the killing of his father and uncle Suresh, Babloo, who had a country-made gun, came out of his house and shot Haq dead who was being beaten up by the mob. The CBI has recovered the weapon, allegedly used in the killing Haq, from Babloo. The Pal family was having a land dispute with Nanhe Yadav’s family which resulted in the village head’s murder, they claimed. PTI
