CBI court gives life imprisonment to Talwars for Aarushi murder

Ghaziabad: A special CBI court in Ghaziabad today sentenced Rajesh and Nupur Talwar to life imprisonment. The Talwars were convicted on Monday for the murder of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj. The CBI argued for maximum punishment, that is death penalty, on the grounds that it was a “cold-blooded murder” and that “there were several injuries on the bodies of the victims”. PTI [/caption] The Tanveer Ahmed Mir, defence counsel for the Talwars opposed the CBI’s plea for maximum punishment. Mir argued that if it was the court’s finding that ‘sudden and grave provocation’ led to the murders then it “cannot fall in the rarest of rare cases as per the settled principles of law.” A special CBI court on Monday convicted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar for the murder of their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, a crime committed five years ago on the intervening night of May 15-16, 2008. The Talwars have also been held guilty of destroying evidence and common intention. Rajesh has additionally been convicted of misleading the investigation by filing a false FIR.
