NRHM scam: CBI files charge sheet against 7

The CBI has chargesheeted seven people in connection with irregularities in the disbursement of funds under the National Rural Health Mission in Uttar Pradesh. The seven have been charged under an investigation into the upgradation of 114 hospitals in UP. The project was worth Rs 13.5 crore. [caption id=“attachment_265127” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Reuters”] [/caption]Irregularities were reported in the NRHM fund disbursed to Uttar Pradesh in 2011. In November 2011, the Allahabad High Court directed the CBI to conduct an inquiry into the misuse of the NRHM funds in UP. The CBI subsequently probing irregularities in funds disbursed to 72 CMOs across UP and formed a special team to investigate the case further. Initially, the organisation estimated the losses from the scam at Rs 5.46 lakh, but during investigations it found that the losses were more to the tune of Rs 7.84 crore. CBI sources have said in fact, that for every Rs 100, only Rs 32 was actually used for actual NRHM work. The case has had its fair share of gory drama. Sunil Verma, an accused in the scam, committed suicide in January at his Vikas Nagar residence in Lucknow by shooting himself with his licenced revolver. The details of the accused are as follows: 1.
