CBI arrests RP Infosystems directors Shivaji Panja, Kaustav Roy in Kolkata bank fraud case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested RP Infosystems directors Shivaji Panja and Kaustav Ray in an ongoing investigation of an alleged bank fraud case in Kolkata.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested RP Infosystems' directors Shivaji Panja and Kaustav Ray in connection with an alleged bank fraud case in Kolkata, media reports said. Panja is reportedly a close aide of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, CNN-News 18 reported.

Days after the Punjab National Bank scam, another bank fraud was reported after Canara Bank moved the CBI with a complaint of fraudulent transactions worth Rs 515.15 crores against Kolkata-based RP Infosystems and its directors.

According to the FIR, on 26 February, 2018 DV Prasad Rao, deputy general manager, Canara Bank had filed a complaint with the CBI in Kolkata alleging that Panja, Ray, Vinay Bafna, directors and Debnath Pal, vice-president (finance) of RP Info Systems cheated Canara Bank and nine other member banks of a consortium to the tune of Rs 515.15 crore.

Earlier in 2015, Panja was arrested for allegedly duping a Delhi-based company of Rs 18 crore, The Times of India had reported.

After PNB scam, a series of other bank frauds have come to the surface including the Rs 3,695 crore Rotomac scam and Rs 515 crore scam involving RP Infosystems fraud. The total scam/wilful default amount involving different banks will work out to around Rs 26,000 crore.
