Seven-year-old Yogita Thakre’s name is not one that is familiar to many. This is a girl who’s bruised body was found in a car, in the driveway of the current BJP President, Nitin Gadkari’s residence in Nagpur, in May 2009. The facts of this case have been constantly changing. When the story first came to light, the parents of the girl, Vimal and Ashok Thakre had requested that the case be handed to the CBI, it was however handed to the CID. Two years later, the case appears to be forgotten and with the evidence and investigation remaining inconclusive, it looks like it could be closed. The mother of the girl had also alleged that Yogita was sexually abused before her murder. The Nagpur high court will have a final hearing of the case this coming week to decide if the case should be closed.
