Budget 2014 on Twitter: SUVs, Harvard trend after Chidu's speech

Finance minister P Chidambaram today present the interim budget for 2014 and some of the key announcements he made during the budget included the introduction of one pay one rank for soldier, slashing of excise duties for cars and SUVs. Chidambaram also chose to reply to BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi’s jibe about his Harvard degree and said during the course of his speech, “My mother and Harvard taught me the value of hard work.” [caption id=“attachment_1227367” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Representational image. AFP[/caption] For Twitter, Chidambaram’s speech had enough fodder to allow 140 character jokes and hashtags to flourish. Prominent hashtags that were trending post the budget included SUVs with some joking that though they can’t afford houses, they can now buy SUVs and live in them, #RGforSoldiers which was linked to Rahul Gandhi’s support for the One rank one pension policy, Harvard and #budget 2014. SUVs seems to have really caught onto the imagination of the Twitter universe with many pointing out what was the next to reduce excise duty on a fuel guzzling machine and others joking that SUV prices were cut since politicians prefer them Here are the tweets around SUVs:
