The Hindu reported that Hague was the first foreign official visiting India who took up the Gujarat riots issue since the current NDA government came to power. Brothers Saeed and Shakil Dawood, along with their friend Mohammed Aswat, were murdered by a mob in Prantij, near Ahmedabad when they were visiting India in February 2002, according to the report. Their family members have been campaigning for justice since then in the UK and have also asked the victims’ remains to be returned to UK for burial. However, the body of one of the victims has not been found till now and evidence in the case is still being recorded, the report adds. Hague discussed the demand of the victims’ families with Swaraj. The report said that India’s external affairs minister took “note of Mr. Hague’s concerns, and explained that the judicial processes in the country would take their own course.”
