Brilliant or incompetent? Probing one murder, cops solve 7 others

While the city crime branch’s motive was to solve Sandhya Singh murder mystery, they ended up solving the murder case of a Thane woman instead. Ajay Jadhav, 25, who was held to be questioned in relation to Singh’s case, confessed to have murdered his wife after a drunken spat in December. According to a Hindustan Times report , this is the seventh case to be solved by the police while tracking Singh’s murderers. Singh, who happens to be the sister of music composers Jatin-Lalit and yesteryear actors Sulakshana and Vijeta Pandit went missing on 13 December with jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh.  Her skeletal remains were found near Palm Beach road in January. PTI[/caption] “Wednesday, we received information that a man who killed a woman in December had come to work as a daily wage labourer in Panvel. As Sandhya was murdered in December, we picked up Jadhav for questioning,” said a crime branch official in an interview to The Indian Express . While Jadhav insisted that he didn’t even know who Singh was, he confessed to having murdered his own wife. Further interrogation revealed that Jadhav had converted to Islam and changed his name to Mustafa Sheikh to marry his love interest Yasmin Sheikh in September. An alcoholic Jadhav later strangled his pregnant wife to death on December 17 after they had a bitter argument. Jadhav, who was on the run ever since, had now been handed over to the Kalwa police. The police also said that Jadhav was arrested in 2010 for killing a neighbour and had spent 14 months in Taloja Central Jail, after which he shifted to Kalwa, where he met Yasmin.
