A police personnel lost his life while defusing a bomb at Alipurduar located in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. He belonged to the Bomb Disposal Squad and along with others of his team was trying to dismantle a bomb that was found earlier in the day, at Alipurduar chowpathi, one of the busy areas of the town. When we discovered the bomb, we quickly called in our bomb squad and they took the bomb to a deserted place and began defusing it. However, there was a mishap during the disposal process and one of the member of the bomb squad got gravely injured. He lost his life as we tried to transfer him to the hospital,” Additional Superintendent of Police, Akash Megharia told Firstpost over telephone from Alipurduar. The incident took place barely a week after seven people were injured when a bomb exploded inside a Bhutan-bound bus in nearby Barobhisa area in the same district on 18 August. While media reports claimed that certain officials have said that they suspect Kamtapur Liberation Organisation behind the bomb planting, Megharia refused to delve into details and said that they are investigating the prima facie evidence and trying to find out who is behind this. Reportedly two other members of the bomb squad were also hurt.
