The blast took place in a bus near Pipli in Sonepat district. It was said to have been on its way to Chandigarh from Sonepat.

CNN-News18 quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the blast took place as a battery-like object exploded in the bus. The cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained, police said, adding that forensic experts have been summoned. The blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), India Today reported.

A bomb squad is at the location to investigate the incident, Times Now reported. While the injured were taken to a hospital, the rest continued their travel in another bus.

The injured were being treated at a hospital in Kurukshetra, police said.
