A BJP youth wing leader was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in Lucknow's Badshahnagar, police said on Tuesday. The victim, 34-year-old Pratyishmani Tripathi, was attacked with sharp-edged weapons around 8 pm on Monday night. He was discovered bleeding on the road by passersby and rushed to the trauma centre of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in the city where he was declared dead on arrival.
The slain leader, a member of Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha had allegedly petitioned the district police chief sometime back, fearing for his life and demanded security but the request had fallen on deaf ears. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. No arrest has been made so far.
The incident comes a day after Uttar Pradesh Police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was killed, along with another youth, by a mob in Bulandshahr district following rumours of cow slaughter.
Shortly after midnight, hundreds of supporters gathered outside KGMU raising anti-police slogans and demanded immediate suspension of Lucknow Senior Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani. The protesters have reportedly demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for Tripathi’s family.
According to reports, the victim's wife had named five men in the crime minutes before his death around 3 am. Tripathi was allegedly involved in a spat with some neighbours some days ago over an eve-teasing incident, his family members said.
District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma ordered heavy security in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
In a similar attack at Chhapra city of Bihar's Saran district, Piyush Kumar, son of local BJP leader Gangotri Prasad, was stabbed to death while he was passing by Garkha block in the city in October.
In September again, former mayor of Muzaffarpur district in Bihar, Samir Kumar was shot dead by unidentified assailants.
