Bihar: Dalit woman assaulted, stripped and urinated upon over loan interest, accused absconding

A Dalit woman in Bihar was assaulted and allegedly stripped naked and also urinated upon for refusing to pay additional interest on a loan her husband had taken from a village strongman, said police on Monday. Confirming the incident, Syed Imran Masood, SP City, Patna, said the incident took place on Saturday night under the jurisdiction of Khusrupur Police Station.

“An incident has come to light in which a woman belonging to Scheduled Caste has been beaten up, under Khusrupur PS limits… As soon as we got the information, we registered an FIR…,” said Masood. He said that the accused is on the run and the raids are underway to nab the culprit. “The accused is absconding… We are raiding all the possible locations of the accused. As per the information till now, there has been some dispute between the two sides over money, due to which the accused beat up the woman,” added the SP He said that the woman has also alleged that she was stripped and urinated upon by the accused. “As per the investigation till now, a dispute over money and a woman being beaten up is confirmed. We are investigating the rest of the allegations. Further probe is underway,” said Masood. According to an NDTV report, citing police, the woman’s husband had borrowed Rs 1,500 from one Pramod Singh in Mosimpur village of Patna district. The couple had repaid the whole amount, however, Singh had been demanding additional interest. When the couple refused, Singh, his son and their aides assaulted her and stripped her naked, added the report. In her complaint, the woman alleged that Pramod, his son Anshu and four other men forced her to come along with them on Saturday night when she was at her home. They thrashed her with sticks and stripped her naked at an isolated place in the village, officials said. Singh then asked Anshu to urinate in her mouth, officials said. With inputs from agencies
